About Rapid Fusion
Rapid Fusion designs and manufactures large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) systems built around KUKA robotics, serving the defence, aerospace, marine, and commercial sectors. Our Zeus, Apollo, Cerberus, and Medusa platforms are installed at customer sites across the UK and internationally.
The Role
We're looking for a skilled Installation Fitter to work alongside our Electrical Installation Engineer on the onsite build, rigging, and mechanical assembly of our industrial robotic systems. You'll travel to customer facilities in the UK and worldwide, handling the mechanical and physical side of each install — frame and enclosure assembly, rigging and positioning of heavy plant, cable containment and routing, and general fitting work — so the install runs efficiently and safely from unload to handover. This is a skilled, hands-on trade role, not general labouring.
Key Responsibilities
● Onsite mechanical installation of KUKA robot cells and associated equipment — frames, enclosures, guarding, and ancillary structures
● Rigging, lifting, and positioning of heavy machinery and plant using slings, chain blocks, forklifts, and gantries as required
● Mechanical assembly and fitting to engineering drawings — bolting, aligning, levelling, and torquing to specification
● Cable tray, containment, and conduit installation; running and dressing cables ahead of electrical termination
● Supporting the Electrical Engineer during commissioning — holding, positioning, adjusting, and general assistance
● Unpacking, staging, and preparing equipment for install; managing packaging, crating, and site housekeeping
● Basic mechanical fault-finding and adjustment during installation
● Working safely around live installation environments; following site-specific RAMS and safety procedures
● Liaising with customers onsite professionally and representing the company well
● Supporting factory build and test activities between installations
● Completing installation checklists and handover documentation
Requirements
● Time-served fitter, mechanical engineer, or tradesperson with industrial installation experience (mechanical fitting, plant fitting, rigging, or similar)
● Experience assembling or installing industrial machinery — robotics, automation, or heavy plant highly desirable
● Ability to read and work from mechanical and general arrangement drawings
● Practical, methodical approach with good hand tool and power tool skills
● Full UK driving licence — essential
● Valid passport and willingness to travel worldwide, sometimes at short notice and for extended periods — essential
● Rigging/lifting qualification (e.g. slinger/signaller, banksman) desirable, or willingness to train
● Forklift or MEWP licence desirable
● Experience working around robotics, CNC, or industrial automation an advantage
● Right to work in the UK
What We Offer
● Competitive salary
● Company benefits package
● All travel expenses paid
● Overseas travel with varied, hands-on work — no two installs the same
● Small, fast-moving engineering team with direct exposure to cutting-edge robotic manufacturing technology
● On-the-job training alongside experienced electrical and mechanical engineers
● Genuine opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding company
